Helmed by Board-Certified Endodontist Dr. Kenneth Tittle, who is a frequent speaker for professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Endodontists, and the International Association of Dental Traumatology.  Dr. Tittle is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics which is a distinction of only roughly 20% of all endodontists nationwide.

Dr. Mia Tittle is a Board Candidate and in the process of completing her American Board of Endodontics certification. She is involved in the American Association of Endodontics and served on their educational affairs committee as a resident. She strives to continue her father’s passion for patient-centered care and leadership in the dental field.

Root Canal

Decay that has reached the pulp (interior) of the tooth, or an infection that has developed inside the tooth can result in severe pain. If the tooth is not treated quickly, it is at risk of being lost. 

During a root canal, the pulp of the tooth will be carefully removed and the interior of the tooth will be completely cleaned and disinfected. The canals of the tooth root system will also be reshaped to prevent future infection.  The tooth will then be sealed with a specialized filling and temporary restoration which should be replaced with a permanent bonded restoration and crown as soon as possible 

Vital Pulp Therapy

This encompasses a class of treatments that aim to keep the pulp alive and functional while also removing the source of the insult. Only a small amount of the inflamed nerve is removed and a bioceramic material is placed to promote pulpal healing. Vital pulp therapy is only a viable treatment option in specific scenarios and has the best prognosis in younger patients. Primary teeth in young patients can sometimes need this procedure as well. 

Endodontic Retreatment

Sometimes a tooth that was previously treated with root canal therapy becomes reinfected. If this happens, endodontic retreatment will be necessary. During endodontic retreatment, the filling inside the tooth will be removed, and the tooth chamber will be cleaned, medicated, and disinfected before being resealed.

Endodontic Surgeries

Endodontic microsurgery (apicoectomy) is the process of addressing a problem at the end of a previously endodontically treated tooth in a surgical manner instead of conventional non-surgical retreatment. Apicoectomies may be the more predictable treatment option if there are alterations or complications that make retreatment from the top of the tooth difficult. Some reasons for endodontic surgery may include persistent cysts, cracked roots, perforated root tips, and narrow canals due to extensive mineralization.

Cracked Teeth and Dental Trauma

If you’ve cracked a tooth or sustained trauma to a tooth or teeth, the pulp of the tooth must be carefully monitored and cared for to prevent the tooth from dying.  Dr. Tittle will customize a treatment plan to care for cracked and injured teeth. Treatments may involve a single root canal or may involve one or more procedures to ensure proper healing and prevent tooth loss.

Will insurance pay for endodontic services?

You will need to check your dental insurance for specific coverage. Many plans offer at least partial emergency coverage for dental trauma and cracked teeth. Others may cover all or part of the cost of a root canal.  If you do not have insurance, or your insurance does not cover your care, we accept all credit cards and CareCredit financing.  

Is a root canal really painful?

Technological advancements in dental anesthesia make root canal therapy much more comfortable than the procedures of the past. Most of the time, a root canal only takes about as long as a dental filling or crown. You may experience some tenderness for a few days after your treatment, but this should improve with time.

Is an apical surgery performed in a hospital?

No. This surgery can be performed in our dental office, without the need for hospitalization.

Can you save a knocked-out tooth?

If a tooth has been completely knocked out, time is of the essence and the tooth needs to be re-planted in the socket as soon as possible. We prioritize dental emergencies, including dental trauma and knocked-out teeth. Contact us at 925-676-3388 as soon as possible, and come to our office. If you have uncontrolled bleeding from dental trauma go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. If you experience a knocked-out tooth when our office is closed, call 925-676-3388 and follow the instructions in the message.
